Possible Bronze Age cropmark round barrow cemetery (with a possible square barrow). {1}{2}
A line of round barrows, believed to be situated on a sandy ridge amongst the peat and alluviated plain of the River Witham, was identified by the National Mapping Programme (NMP), {5}
Geophysical surveys (magnetometry, magnetic susceptibility and resistivity) of approximately 1.6 hectares were conducted over the site of the barrow cemetery. The surveys concentrated on two supposed barrows that lay within the 80 hectare project area of the English Heritage survey programme. On the whole, the geophysical surveys corroborated what had been interpreted from the air, both archaeologically and geologically. In addition several smaller, potentially archaeological features were identified and more information was gained about the eastern of the two barrows observed in the NMP exercise. {6}
