Full Description

A number of undated features, comprising a series of intercutting ditches and the remains of a post trench, were identified in May 1995, during archaeological monitoring of residential development on land off High Street, Scampton. The post trench was believed to have formed part of an extensive structure, possibly a fence line or temporary sturcture. The exact function of the ditch features could not be determined. {1}{2} A further series of 8 intercutting ditches were identified in April 1996, during archaeological monitoring of the adjacent land of Plot 2, High Street, Scampton. The features all appeared to represent drainage or enclosure ditches, although no finds were recovered and no date for the activity could be determined. {3}{4}
