SETTLEMENT REMAINS, FORMERLY PART OF HARDWICK LIE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE SINGLE NORTH-SOUTH VILLAGE STREET, PARTLY AS EARTHWORKS AND PARTLY PLOUGHED. THEY MAY REPRESENT TWO SETTLEMENT ELEMENTS THAT HAVE JOINED AND THEN SHRUNK AGAIN, FOR IN THE NORTH THERE ARE SLIGHT EARTHWORKS AROUND MANOR FARM, WHILE OPPOSITE HIGHFIELDS FARM PLOUGHED CLOSES HAVE PRODUCED POTTERY OF C12 ONWARDS ALONG THE STREET FRONTAGE, TOGETHER WITH LATER POTTERY UP TO C18 FROM AN AREA WHERE A HOUSE IS MAPPED IN 1648. BETWEEN THEM ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE ROAD A SERIES OF 5 REGUALR TOFTS, 4 WITH SIGNS OF OCCUPATION APPEAR TO OVERLIE RIDGE AND FURROW. MORE HOUSES ARE MAPPED IN C17 THAN NOW EXIST. {1}{2}{3}
