Full Description

A weathered polished axe made from compact chalk, found in 1953, on land to the north of Hardwick. The item has been ascribed to the Bronze Age, though has parallels to similar axes found at Louth Park and Kettlethorpe, both thought to be of Neolithic date. It is thought to have had a votive or religious significance, rather than being a item for practical use. The item appears to have since been lost, along with the Louth Park example. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}
