Full Description

Canal lock and footbridge on the Foss Dyke Navigation, built in the 19th century. Constructed of ashlar stone, wood and cast iron. Designed as a rectangular lock chamber with double gates at either end, and a footbridge at the western end, nearest the road. This lock controls the outfall to the Trent. The lock has gently battered walls of squared stone rubble and a floor of wooden boards. At each end are two pairs of double-leaf timber gates, the inner ones of which were both renewed in 1996. {3}
