A new observatory-type top was put on in 1974 and the tower is now preserved. There were four patent sails, driving three pairs of stones. Of the original gear, only the curb and one grey bedstone remains. Later gear consisting of a roller and a hurst frame with a pair of grey stones also survives. {1}
