Full Description

The east grange was one of two granges in Scampton parish belonging to Kirkstead Abbey (the other being wast grange - see PRN 52154). There is a reference to one of the granges before the end of the 12th century, but they are not clearly distinguished until the 16th century. Both granges survived until the Dissolution and for some time after as distinct properties. The exact location of the east grange is unknown, although it was valued along with the village of Scampton at 18/16/2 in Valor Ecclesiasticus, which would suggest a close link. {1}{2}
