Full Description

Site of the west grange, one of two granges in Scampton parish belonging to Kirkstead Abbey (the other being east grange - see PRN 52156). The site was later occupied by Scampton Hall. There is a reference to one of the granges before the end of the 12th century, but they are not clearly distinguished until the 16th century. Both granges survived until the Dissolution and for some time after as distinct properties. The west grange was valued in Valor Ecclesiasticus at six pounds. {1}{2}{3}
