Full Description
TWO POLISHED STONE AXES PLOUGHED UP AT SAXBY IN ABOUT 1946, AND PRESENTED TO LINCOLN MUSEUM IN 1957. {1}{2}{5}{6}
BOTH AXES WERE THIN SECTIONED, ONE WAS FOUND TO BE OF GROUP VI IN ORIGIN, THE OTHER WAS OF GROUP XX ORIGIN. {7}
IN 1964 SEAMAN REPORTED THAT THE FARMER SAID HE PLOUGHED ONE AXE UP 'SOME YEARS AGO' (PRN 51416). HE KNEW NOTHING OF A SECOND AXE. {2}
A LETTER FROM THE FINDER IN 1959 HOWEVER ASSERTS THAT THE TWO AXES WERE FOUND BY HIS UNCLE DURING PLOUGHING IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. {4}
POSSIBLY THREE AXES ARE BEING REFERRED TO.
