Full Description

TWO POLISHED STONE AXES PLOUGHED UP AT SAXBY IN ABOUT 1946, AND PRESENTED TO LINCOLN MUSEUM IN 1957. {1}{2}{5}{6} BOTH AXES WERE THIN SECTIONED, ONE WAS FOUND TO BE OF GROUP VI IN ORIGIN, THE OTHER WAS OF GROUP XX ORIGIN. {7} IN 1964 SEAMAN REPORTED THAT THE FARMER SAID HE PLOUGHED ONE AXE UP 'SOME YEARS AGO' AND INDICATED THE FIND SPOT AT SK99108646. THIS AXE WAS LATER TAKEN TO SCHOOL BY HIS DAUGHTER AND SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND ITS WAY TO LINCOLN MUSEUM. HE KNEW NOTHING OF A SECOND AXE. {2} A LETTER FROM THE FINDER IN 1956 HOWEVER ASSERTS THAT THE TWO AXES WERE FOUND BY HIS UNCLE DURING PLOUGHING IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. {4} POSSIBLY THREE AXES ARE BEING REFERED TO?
