Full Description

St Helen's is a small church, rebuilt in 1866. {1} St Helen's church is a good estate church of 1866 by Sir G. G. Scott, with a west tower, nave and chancel. It has geometrical tracery. The font is Norman and drum shaped, and decorated with segmental arched arcading, in it flowers or faces. {2} The medieval church was replaced at the Huttons' expense before 1793, by a building in a 'pseudo-classical style, externally, and more like a room than a church, within' and was presumably designed as a landscape feature. It was replaced in turn by the existing Victorian Gothic building of 1866. {3} For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {5}
