Full Description

St Martin's Church is Norman to Perpendicular [1066 to c.1520] in date and was restored in 1880. The chancel was rebuilt in 1877. In 1964 the church was in normal use. {1} St Martin's Church has a plain, wide, unmoulded Norman tower arch; the rest of the tower is Perpendicular. The chancel is Early English, but was virtually rebuilt in 1877. The nave and aisles were restored by James Fowler in 1880 and the tower was restored in 1891 to 1892. The font is Perpendicular in date [1180 to c.1520] and is octagonal with tracery motifs. An incised 15th century stone, used as the mensa of the south aisle altar, came from the demolished church at Southorpe. A brass tablet in the south wall, in a square moulded stone surround, is to the children of Sir John of Wharton (died 1615). {3} For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {4}
