Several large fishponds in a group, probably related to the abbey. {1}
The fishponds, which are of unusual linear form, cross and occupy principally the west slope of the peat-filled north-south channel along the west side of the monastic precinct. They are presumably appurtenances of the monastery. {2}
During a watching brief, dump deposits associated with ground levelling and the backfilling of a possible fishpond were recorded at about TF 1131 7038. Finds of medieval roof tile suggest the presence of a building in the vicinity, but the relative absence of domestic debris suggests that any buildings were not used for occupation.{4}{5}
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks at Abbey Farm, Bardney. The work identified a sequence of natural deposits and extensive post medieval dumped deposits. Previous investigation in the area suggested that the dumped layers infilled a medieval fishpond. {6}{7}
