Remains of stonework have been found in this location, apparently from a demolished building or earlier church. {1}
Archaeological evidence of a large early medieval or late Saxon cemetery at the west end of the village hints at the possibility of a second church in Fillingham, or of an earlier site of the present church. {2}{3}{4}
