Full Description

Hemswell Mill is depicted in this area on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. It is labelled as a corn mill on later maps of this area, but does not appear on the 3rd edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, suggesting it had been demolished prior to the publication of that map in 1950. {1}{2}{3}{4} It is thought that Hemswell Mill was a post mill, which had formerly been located at Gringley on the Hill (Notts), before being moved to this location south of Hemswell in 1855. The mill was nicknamed 'Roving Molly', and bore the date 1815 on the brake wheel, indicating its original construction date. It had become derelict by 1923 and had been demolished by 1951. {5}
