Full Description

THIS IS THE C16 MANORIAL COMPLEX CREATED BY THE MONSONS. WITHIN IS AN EAST- WEST CHAIN OF 5 FISHPONDS DRAINING WEST. ONLY THE 2 EASTERNMOST REMAIN WATER- FILLED. THE LARGER FORMS AN ORNAMENTAL FEATURE WHICH IS SHOWN ON MAPS OF 1805 AND 1845, WHILE THE OTHER IN 1845 APPEARS AS A LONG NARROW NORTH-SOUTH POND WHICH MAY ONCE HAVE EXTENDED FURTHER NORTH. BELOW, AND TO THE WEST, AND SEPARATED BY EARTHERN BANKS FORMING DAMS, ARE THE REMAINS OF THREE FURTHER PONDS, NOW PARTLY DESTROYED BY LATER GARDENS. ANY CONNECTING LEATS BETWEEN THE PONDS HAVE BEEN OBSCURED BY THE MODERN ROAD.{1}~, HTM 25M
