Full Description

100 ACRES OF WARREN AND HEATH, FORMERLY PART OF ALVINGHAM PRIORY'S GRANGE IN CABOURNE, WAS RECORDED AS BEING IN THE POSSESSION OF WILLIAM MONSON IN 1558. IT IS NOT CLEAR WHERE THESE WERE LOCATED; HOWEVER, AN ESTATE MAP OF 1814 SHOWS THE PADDOCK SOUTH-WEST OF THE VICARAGE AND THE PADDOCK NORTH-WEST OF THE CHURCH AND THE FIELD-NAME 'CONEY CLOSE'. THE PADDOCK NORTH-WEST OF THE CHURCH CONTAINS LOW EARTHWORKS WHICH WERE LEVELLED AND PLOUGHED IN 1965, BUT WHICH SEEM TO HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE SITES OF RECTANGULAR BUILDINGS. THE PADDOCK SOUTH-WEST OF THE VICARAGE CONTAINS FRAGMENTARY EARTHWORKS REPRESENTING BUILDINGS AND SMALL PLOTS CUT BY A BANK AND DITCHED BOUNDARY FEATURE THAT LIES WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE OLD ENCLOSURES MAPPED IN 1814, WHICH FOLLOW THE FIELD BOUNDARY AND INCLUDE A BLOCK OF RIDGE AND FURROW TO THE NORTH. {1} INCLUDED BY NMP AS VILLAGE EARTHWORKS. {3}
