Full Description

SURROUNDING THE MANOR HOUSE IS A RECTANGULAR, SUBSTANTIALLY DITCHED ENCLOSURE, PROBABLY DEFINING A MANORIAL BLOCK THAT MUST FORMERLY HAVE ENCOMPASSED THE CHURCH ALSO. A CHAIN OF HOLLOWS RUNNING DOWNSLOPE MAY HAVE BEEN A SET OF RATHER SLIGHT FISHPONDS. THIS MANORIAL CURIA HAS CLEARLY DISRUPTED THE ROAD PATTERN AND REMODELLED IT BY EXPANDING ACROSS IT. THE CHAMBERLAIN FAMILY WERE RESIDENT IN WICKENBY FROM THE MID C13-MID C15, AND IT WAS POSSIBLY THEM WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISRUPTION OF THE VILLAGE PATTERN. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}, HTM 20M
