Full Description
Earthwork remains of 16th-17th century gardens which belonged to a house 'of some pretension'. The house is shown on the Binbrook Enclosure Map of 1740 as a substantial residence with a symmetrical façade. In the 19th century this house was substantially remodelled and enlarged. {1}
The partially extant 19th century farmstead comprises a regular courtyard with linked working buildings to all four sides of the yard. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been significant loss (greater than 50%) of traditional buildings. Isolated location. Large modern sheds are located to the side of the site. {2}
The First Edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey Map shows an area of parkland surrounding Orford House. This was not shown on the 1905 Ordnance Survey Map suggesting a change in use. {3}{4}
A photographic recording was undertaken on one of the farm outbuildings in 2020, which found the building to be of hipped roof and brick construction, with a chimney and some modern alterations. {5}
