Full Description

The Monsons, already established at the adjacent parish of South Carlton, acquired the Manor of North Carlton in the 16th century or perhaps in 1568. The Old Hall, usually described as late 16th or Elizabethan in date, was presumably of their building. Although the house and gardens were laid across earlier cleared properties, all the field remains around the Old Hall can be interpreted in the context of an elaborate formal garden of late 16th to early 17th century type. {1} North Carlton Hall is a Grade I Listed country house which was built in the late 16th century with extensive alterations in the late 19th century. It was constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a plain tiled roof with raised moulded stone coped gables. {6}
