Peter Hancock's hospital is east of the church and is dated 1712. It is facing the green and grand in a portly way. The hospital was constructed of brick and has an eleven-bay front, two storeys, a pediment, stone angle quoins and stone strings. The hospital, the former Kitchings school of 1843 with characteristic bellcote, and the former school house (now the museum) form a modest group around the green. {1} Handcock's hospital, dated 1712, has an eleven bay front, two storeys and a pediment. It is still in use as an almshouse. {2} Four red brick almshouses, now cottages. Above the central window is an ashlar plaque inscribed: "Impensis Petri Hancock Armiger A.D. MDCCXII". They are still in use for their original purpose, despite a lapse around 1837, although they have now been converted to flats. {4}
