Full Description

Well and hermitage chapel of St Pancras. {1} Chalybeate spring, which has immemorially been called Saint Pancras well; at the bottom of this was a strong flooring of oak, taken up several years ago before 1795. {2} A chapel of St Pancras once stood on the site of the Roman villa at Scampton, SK95497851. Close by is a spring bearing the same dedication, SK95417853. There is no evidence of a well at the published site (now under plough). A well immediately to the south has also been filled in. No substantiation of the chapel site could be obtained. {3} All traces of St Pancras' well have vanished. {4}
