Full Description
Brocklesby Hall is a Grade I Listed large country house dating from probably the 16th century. A house was originally built on this site by Sir William Pelham in 1603 but the present house probably dates to 1710 based on the style of the building. Legend has it that Buckingham House was used as a model, Brocklesby Hall being a refined brick oblong, with nine by six bays, three storeys high, with a parapet. It was remodelled in about 1730. The house was severely damaged by fire in 1898, then restored by Sir Reginald Blomfield, and reduced in size and altered in the 20th century by Phillimore. {1-5}
A tree ring analysis was undertaken in 2007 on timbers from various parts of the "strong room" with the results suggesting the majority of the timbers were felled between 1715 and 1740, although a timber from a lintel was dated to 1580 which in conjunction suggesting there may be considerable survivial of earlier features despite the fire and later remodelling. {6}
The hall is associated with several other notable buildings including stables which lie to the northeast of the hall, and a conservatory and orangery to the west.
