Full Description

Human remains of uncertain date have been reportedly found in this location. Cragg wrote that 'some years ago, on lowering the hill on the Town Green, a great many human bones were found which fell to dust when exposed to the air'. {1}{2}{3} Further undated human and animal bone remains were found during the digging of a sewer trench between The Green and the corner of South Street, about 200 yards from the church. They could be related to nearby human remains, dated to the Anglo-Saxon period, although no associated artefacts were recovered and their date could not be established. {4}{5}{6}
