Full Description

PRN 50012 Marked as tumulus on the Ordnance Survey 1 inch map of 1824 but is probably a mill mound. {1} An archaeological survey was undertaken on lands forming part of the Brocklesby Estate, comprising field observation and rapid field walking (on a non-collecting basis) and a desk-top assessment. This was done to appraise the archaeological resource of the estate as part of a wider Heritage Landscape Management Plan. The survey identified an earthwork, about 20m in diameter by 1.5m high with a flat top and central depression about 6m in diameter by 0.50m deep. There is no trace of a surrounding ditch and it is thought that the earthwork represents a windmill mound.{3}
