Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

The scanty foundations of a quadrangular brick structure with stone dressings. A few foundations are visible including the bottom of a stair-turret at the north-east corner and the crown of a subterranean vault. {1} No sign of the building is visible now; the whole area has been grassed and is part of the castle bowls club. A cesspit has been dug into one side of the scheduled area. {2}{3}{4}{5} The college remains have been combined with the castle into a single scheduling. {6} Possible traces of the former college were identified in the summer of 2009, during earth resistance and magnetometry surveys, conducted around Tattershall Castle. The surveys recorded a number of geophysical anomalies in this location, that were thought to represent former structures and spreads of rubble likely representing the remains of demolished buildings. {7}
