The structure consists of a red brick bridge over the centre of the lock. This part was demolished c.1966-8 and the material used to fill the lock chamber, and provide access to the field to the north. Parts of the walling survive to the east and west of the lock chamber. The lock was built of brick with stone cappings. The northern gate is dated 1896, whilst the southern gate is dated 1923. The structure was built c.1800-12 when the system of navigable drains were excavated in the fens north of Boston. {1}{2} One lock remains - this is stone built with a sluice alongside and has a guillotine at the north end; the other gates are opened by winches. {3}
