The railway line from Willoughby to Sutton on Sea was opened in 1886, and from Sutton on Sea to Mablethorpe in 1888. The railway at Sutton on Sea was built entirely of wood. On the west platform was a waiting room, 18ft 2" by 19ft 6", and there was a platform signal box of similar size and form. On the east platform was a booking hall of similar form to the one at Mumby Road, on the same line. It was approximately 60ft long with an overall canopy. The large wooden goods shed, 80ft by 40ft, was demolished 1964-5. The station was closed for goods in March 1964, and the line and station were closed completely in October 1970. {1}
