Full Description
MEDIEVAL SETTLEMENT REMAINS, FORMERLY PART OF ASGARBY, ARE LOCATED AROUND ASGARBY HALL FARM AND ASGARBY HOUSE. SOME OF THESE EARTHWORKS ARE NO LONGER IN EXISTENCE, INCLUDING FOUR FISHPONDS WHICH HAD BEEN BACKFILLED BY THE END OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. A SMALL QUANTITY OF POTTERY, DATING FROM C13 ONWARDS, WAS RECOVERED FROM THE TOPSOIL DURING A WATCHING BRIEF ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF A POND. THIS IS THOUGHT TO REPRESENT MEDIEVAL SPREADING OF FARMING WASTE AS FERTILISER. {1}{2}{3}
