Full Description

Sir Christopher Wray (1524 to 1592) had a castellated mansion surrounded by a moat. The present house is an earlier 19th century farmhouse. The moat was resurveyed at 1: 2500. {1}{2}{3} A farmhouse dating from the 16th century which was refronted in the early 19th century and altered in the later 19th century. It was constructed of colourwashed brick and stone and has a slate roof with two gable and single ridge stacks. Partially extant 16th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of U plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been significant loss (greater than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within a loose farmstead cluster. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {5}
