Full Description

Sir Christopher Wray (1524-92 AD) had a castellated mansion at Ashby, surrounded by a moat (see MLI127894). The present house within the moat largely dates from the early 19th century. The remains of an 'ancient' brick tower formerly standing in front of house within the moat was demolished in 1826. {1}{2}{3}{4} A farmhouse dating from the 16th century, which was refronted in the early 19th century and altered in the later 19th century. Built of colourwashed brick and stone, and features a slate roof with two gable and a single ridge chimney stacks. The building is of two storeys, and has an irregular three-bay front with off-centre 19th century door. The site is moated.
