Full Description

Theddlethorpe Hall, north of the church, dates to the late 17th century. It retains Georgian windows and castellated additions of 1804. {1} The Hall is a Grade II Listed house which dates from the late 17th century, with early 18th and 19th century alterations. It was built in red brick with a slate roof, in a T-plan. {2} There was a house on the site prior to work being carried out there in 1576, however the oldest parts of the present structure date from 1690-1710. Documentary records show that at this time the house was an H-shaped building with wings north and south of a central entrance. In 1758 the house was 'modernised', and in 1835 a fire caused extensive damage and significant alterations were carried out during the subsequent repairs. Further alterations were carried out in the 1890's. The house retains some historic internal features including a staircase dating from 1700. It is currently roofed with slate, however it probably had a thatched roof originally. It was owned by the Marshall family until the 19th century. {3}
