Full Description

A tree covered earthwork mound is depicted in this location to the west of Fotherby on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map. It is named as 'Mill Hill', with the placename suggesting it was the site of a former windmill. {1} The former mill stood upon a circular mound which still survives as a prominent earthwork measuring roughly 15m in diameter, as seen on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. The former windmill was thought to be of likely medieval or post-medieval date. {2} The mound is clearly visible on Google Maps Streetview images, standing several metres tall at the centre. It is still largely covered by trees. {3}
