Monument record MLI40697 - Probable Mill Mound, Kelstern
Summary
Probable mill mound, to the south of Kelstern.
Type and Period (1)
- WINDMILL MOUND (Medieval to Post Medieval - 1066 AD? to 1900 AD?)
Protected Status/Designation
Full Description
A circular earthwork mound, measuring 16 paces across and 4ft 6" high, is visible to the south of Kelstern. The mound has a flattened top and a deep ditch on the northern side. The mound resembles the remains of a former barrow, although this interpretation is not supported. The size, sharpness of profile, saucered top, causewayed ramp to the road and its topographical position would rather suggest that these are the remains of a former mill mound. {1}{2}{3}
