KIRKSTEAD ABBEY WAS MOVED TO ITS PRESENT SITE IN 1187. THE ABBEY WAS HOWEVER, FOUNDED ELSEWHERE. IT WAS MOVED A SHORT DISTANCE' FROM THE FOUNDATION SITE OF 1139.{1}
