Full Description

Mapleton Farm was formerly named 'The Grange' on earlier historic Ordnance Survey maps of this area. The name would suggest that the farm is located on the site of a former medieval grange. The farm was depicted on the earlier maps with an L-shaped pond, possible representing the remains of a former moat. {1}{2} The area of the farm has been levelled, with many of the nearby ponds having been filled in. {3}{4} The grange is thought to have been a possesion of the nuns at Stixwould Priory, being farmed from the 12th century. {5}{6}
