Full Description

The Round House was originally built as a folly in the late 18th century, and later converted into a farmhouse, though is now in a ruinous condition. The building was octagonal in plan, and was constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a facetted pantile roof and central stone chimney stack. It was single-storey with attic space, and had single bays with three cross mullioned glazing bar windows with flat arches to the sides. The interior retained planked doors at the time of listing, along with a cast iron fire range in wooden surround with segmental head and mantleshelf over. It is thought that the building may have been possibly designed as a landscape ornament for the Earls of Ancaster. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {1}{2}{3} The farm is thought to have been occupied by the Louth family in the 20th century. {4}
