Full Description

Sixty two sherds of Bronze Age pottery were found in 1979, during field walking on land to the south of Chain Farm House, Ropsley and Humby. The site is situated adjacent to Long Hollow, and is cut by a stone quarry to the south. The assemblage includes Beaker and Collared Urn sherds, suggesting an early Bronze Age date for the activity in this area. Possible circular cropmarks slightly to the north of the pottery spread could indicate the location of former hut circles {1}, although on further investigation by geophysics {2} and by trial trenching {3}{4} suggested a possible Iron Age date to potential settlement features which may indicate a long-lived landscape.
