Full Description

A concentrated scatter of late Neolithic and early Bronze Age flints was found in the early 1960s, on land to the north-east of Hungerton Hall. The flints were predominantly dark grey in colour, though some brown and pink coloured flints were also present in the assemblage. Some of the flints showed pebble cortex, with others having a more chalky cortex. The assemblage included pieces from a wide variety of tool types including 20 cores, 19 blades, 19 scrapers, 5 knives, 5 awls, 3 leaf shaped arrowheads and 1 barbed and tanged arrowhead, along with 23 waste flakes and other, less easily distinguished tool types. Quite a large proportion of the flints showed evidence of retouching. {1}
