Full Description
A STONE AXE FOUND IN 1964? WAS NOTED BUT NOT RETAINED BY STAMFORD MUSEUM WHO RECORDED NO FINDERS. IN 1965 THE SITE WAS IN RIG AND FURROW, AND A LETTER FROM THE CURATOR (F L TEBBUTT) TO W G SIMPSON DATED 21.5.1963 REFERED TO THE AXE HAVING BEEN FOUND ON THE BANKS OF A STREAM. SEAMAN REPORTED THAT THE FARMER KNEW NOTHING OF THIS FIND, BUT HAD REPORTED AN AXE (PRN 33561) FOUND BY HIS BROTHER, WHICH WAS TAKEN TO STAMFORD MUSEUM BY AN 'AGRICULTURAL SALESMAN' WHO ALSO HAD SOME OTHERS. SEAMAN BELIEVED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A DUPLICATION OF THE RECORD FOR PRN 33561 SINCE THE FIND SPOTS OF PRN 34754 AND 34755 COULD NOT BE CONFIRMED. {1}
POSSIBLY A DUPLICATION OF PRN 33561 OR 33560; HOWEVER THIS COULD BE ONE OF THE OTHER AXES THAT THE SALESMAN WAS REPORTED AS HAVING.
