Full Description

SKELETONS FOUND IN PIPE TRENCH TO SOUTH OF SHEEP WASH FARM DURING DEVELOPMENT FOR NEW HOUSE TO EAST OF CHURCH. ADULTS ORIENTED E-W AND INFANT AT FEET OF ADULT ORIENTED E-W. MEDIEVAL POTTERY WAS FOUND IN THE SPOIL HEAPS. THE BODIES WERE REBURIED IN MAY 1992 IN THE CHURCHYARD OF LITTLE BYTHAM CHURCH. EXCAVATED BY TONY HURLEY, SOUTH KESTEVEN COMMUNITY ARCHAEOLOGIST IN MARCH 1992. TONY HURLEY THINKS THAT THE BURIALS MAY BE OF SAXON DATE, PROBABLY C600 AD - 1000 AD. THE SKELETONS SEEM TO BE ONE OF A WOMAN AND INFANT ABOUT TWO YEARS OLD AT TIME OF DEATH. SK52-09. {1}
