Full Description

FIELDWALKING BY THE FENLAND SURVEY FOUND POTTERY, TILE, QUERN FRAGMENTS, BURNT STONE AND STONE RUBBLE AND SOME BONE. THE SITE WAS POSSIBLY ALIGNED ON THE ROAD AND A SMALL SCATTER OF TILE AND POTTERY FURTHER EAST OF THE SITE. POTTERY INCLUDED GREY WARES, SHELL-GRITTED WARE, MORTARIA AND COLOUR-COATED WARE. {1} A PIPETRENCH PASSED BESIDE THIS SITE IN 1996 BUT NO ARTEFACTS WERE SEEN ALTHOUGH A DITCH CONTAINING BURNT LIMESTONE RUBBLE THE REMAINS OF A BROAD BANK WERE SEEN. {2}{3} THERE ARE CROPMARKS IN THIS AREA (33169) OF A NUMBER OF ENCLOSURES. {4}{5}
