Full Description

A medieval deer park at Irnham is indicated by documentary references. Geoffrey Luttrell employed a parker in the 1330s at his manor in Irnham who received a bequest in Luttrell's will. {1} An empaled park at Irnham is shown on Cary's 1801 map of Lincolnshire. {2} The Luttrells had a deer park at Irnham from 1246. It is said that the park fences fell down during the First World War. There was an attempt to reintroduce Fallow Deer in the 1980s but the attempt failed because of poaching. {3} The parkland is marked on the OS surveyors' drawings of 1815. {4}
