Full Description

A concentration of Romano-British pottery was found in this location to the north-east of Dyke, during field walking conducted as part of the Fenland Project. The assemblage comprised 99 sherds of pottery, including pieces of greyware, shell-gritted wares and colour-coated wares, along with fragments of animal bone, burnt stone and a single tile piece, and was recovered from an area of dark soil staining on the edge of the fen peat. The site extended into a rape crop at the west, where the artefact recovery rate was consequently impaired. The concentration of finds may indicate the site of former settlement activity. {1}
