Full Description

STUKELEY'S DIARIES HAVE ENTRIES DATED 1739 AND 1740 REFERING TO THE SITE OF A ROMAN VILLA AND FINDS OF FOUNDATIONS, BRICK, MOSAICS AND COINS, NEAR THE 'FINE AND REMARKABLE SPRING' AT STOKE. IN 1964 THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF THE VILLA WHICH WAS SUGGESTED TO BE NEAR THE SPRING HEAD (AT SK91722755). AGAIN IN 1965 THE SITE OF THE VILLA COULD NOT BE FOUND. {1}{2}{3}~
