Full Description

Green glazed ridge tile, handle and base of glazed storage jar, and base of a possible chafing dish found. Building stone also found. An iron knife blade was also found. Whole field obviously had building on it.{1}{2} Site of Wood Grange. Visit made 19/12/66.{1}{2} Notes by S Steele documentary references to Woodgrange suggest in existence 1189, but no buildings left by the late 16th century.{2} In 1189 a confirmation charter by Richard I to Sempringham Priory includes grange at Kirkby. Temp Henry VIII Woodgrange value: £12 9s.6d. In 1539 royal grant to Lord Clynton of Sempringham lands that included messuage called Woodgrange.{2}
