Full Description

PRN33309 Cropmarks of 'clothesline' enclosures and ditches visible on J. Pickering aerial photographs. {1} A series of irregular and rectangular enclosures and ditches visible on aerial photographs either side of a long sinuous cropmark feature, perhaps a ditch or a stream. Part of a sequence of cropmarks running east to west across the fen edge towards the higher land and the modern village of Billingborough. The sinuous ditch appears to link these cropmarks with similar cropmarks to the west (PRN33305 and 32972). {2} The cropmark morphology would suggest the sites date to the later prehistoric. The scatter of Roman pottery found at the eastern end of the cropmark complex during the Fenland Survey (PRN34676) may suggest that there was some Roman activity on at least part of the complex. {3}
