Full Description

32993 Landscape park with remains of ambitious late 19th century formal terrace garden. The park extends on both sides of the River Witham which winds roughly north to south, with 0.5k canalised straight section, immediately below and to the west of site of the hall. There are belts of trees and plantations along the boundaries. Along the River Witham is a 19th century waterfall and there is a weir 200m north west of the site. There are also the remains of five terraces, descending westwards for 100m from the site down to the Witham with a balustraded bridge across on the central axis. The rectangular walled area, which held further parterres has now vanished. A 300m avenue survives from the central axis of the garden to the west boundary on the A1. {1}{2}{3}{4}
