Full Description

PRN 30757 Excavations on the High Street frontage revealed occupation from the Anglo-Saxon period onwards including Saxo-Norman hearths, a timber building aligned on the street frontage (of possible twelfth century date) and the erection of a substantial stone building, 3 walls 14 feet by 18 feet. The walls were 3 feet thick, robbed out and reused blocks from an earlier burnt structure - probably 13th century. {1}{2} Excavation to the rear of 5-6 Maiden Lane revealed pits of Anglo-Saxon to medieval date and a fine malt drying kiln, probably 14th century. {4}
