Full Description
Prehistoric to medieval settlement was revealed and destroyed by surface ironworkings at different times since 1882 along a strip of land about 1 mile long and a quarter to a half a mile wide on either side of Sewstern Lane, where it divides Woolsthorpe and Denton.
The finds included prehistoric and Roman pottery, ashes, debris, deer antlers and boar tusks, querns, loom weights, slag, clay blocks, perhaps kiln furniture were found. Conical pits 5-10' deep, were also seen. In one was an 'ancient hearth' and in another burnt wheat was found.
Reports of finds of antler, bone, prehistoric pottery and triangular loomweights point to Iron Age date. {1}{2}{3}{4}
