Full Description
PRN 30383
Norman to Perpendicular. The jamb of a window in the former south wall may be a preconquest cross shaft (see PRN30384). {1}{2}
A watching brief in December 1999 revealed a disturbed subsoil which contained a juvenile skeleton which was undated, and was left in situ. {3}{4}
At the west end of the north aisle there is a damaged and defaced effigy of a knight made of Purbeck marble. The feet rest upon a defaced dog. Two rectangular pillows support the head with the upper positioned diagonally. Unusually for a Lincolnshire effigy the figure is not carved fully in the round. It has neither sword belt nor waist belt and was produced outside the county. The effigy depicts Hugh de Bussy, as indicated by the heraldry of three bars on the shield, who died in 1306. {5}
